Programme Notes for Grease
Actors.
The costumes are very reminiscent of the early sixties. The boys all wear tight jeans with turn ups, T shirts and black leather biker jackets. Their outfits are sometimes varied with check shirts Their hair is worn in a quiff, greased and combed back from their faces. For the Halloween Dance they wear smart casual sports jackets in light colours and dark trousers.
VINCE FONTAINE, TEENAGE ANGEL, AND JOHNNY CASINO the DJ, announcer and Teen Angel is played by Jacob Fisher. Thick dark hair sits up from his face. He has large blue eyes, dark eyebrows, a wide mouth and full lips. As the DJ he wears a cool leopard print jacket over dark trousers. As the Teen Angel he wears a white top and trousers, and has small white wings attached to his back.
DANNY ZUKO is played by DAN PARTRIDGE. He has thick dark wavy hair, high cheek bones, dark eyebrows and eyes. He wears a dark red shirt over his T-shirt and black shoes. Late he appears in a pair of running shorts.
PAUL FRENCH plays the part of KENICKE . He always walks with a swagger.

DOODY is acted by ALEX CHRISTIAN, and has an oval face, short dark hair, dark eyes, straight nose, and small mouth.
ROGER has thick dark hair, with a centre-parting, dark eyebrows, broad nose and wide smile. He is played by JOHN BARNETT
CHRISTIAN ZACCARINI, plays SONNY. His long face is tanned. He has dark hair, and eyebrows, long nose, small mouth and faint moustache and beard.
ELLIOT GOOCH acts ERNIE, and has curly blond hair, a square face, with small nose and mouth.
The part of MICKEY is played by DOM HUTCHESON . He looks tough, with studs in his ears, thick hair, a wide brow, freckles, small eyes, this lips and small moustache.
JUILO is acted by HAROUN JEDDAL, Latin looking, with long dark wavy hair reaching to his shoulders. His tanned square face has thick dark eyebrows, thin moustache and wide mouth.
KEVIN O’DWYER plays CHAD, his heart shaped face has a wide forehead, high cheek bones, fine eyebrows and wide mouth.
LOGAN is acted by JACOB YOUNG, and has a small face, curly dark hair, thick eyebrows, dark eyes, full lips, and he wears a gold earring.
OFFICER MAIALE, is played by RICHARD LINFORD. Aged about fifty, he wears a navy uniform, and has a broad forehead short hair, broad forehead, and nose, thin lips and very white teeth.
All the outfits the girls wear are reminiscent of the sixties; dresses and skirts which emphasise the waist, with full or very flared skirts. In the cheerleader scene they all wear very short red skirts with white insets, barely covering their knickers, and white tops. They all carry batons with red flags attached. As angels they wear white tops and trousers and sport white wings tipped with pink. In the dance scene they wear their best dresses, brightly-coloured and low cut.
SANDY is played by Ellie Kingdon. She has long blond hair, a centre parting, an oval face with dark eyebrows and small eyes, nose and mouth.. She is always modestly dressed, in a blue dress with a wide skirt, or a red striped dress with a red cardigan, and flat white shoes. In Marty’s bedroom she wears a full length nightdress. For the dance she wears a demure and very simple white dress. In the final scene, however, she is transformed appearing in tight jeans and a biker jacket.
RIZZO is acted by TENDAI RINOMNOTA. She is dark skinned with an oval face, short black hair, broad nose and full lips. She wears tight black shorts, and a sleeveless white top and also blue jeans with a red t shirt.
MARIANNA NEOFITOU plays FRENCHY. With long dark shoulder length hair, she has a wide smile, high cheek bones, dark eyes, long nose and thin lips. She wears a pale pink shirt with blue jeans. In the bedroom scene she wears pink and grey baby doll pyjamas and a red band round her head.
JAN is played by MAEVE BYRNE , and has a broad face, with plump cheeks, long dark hair , very dark eyebrows, dark eyes, long nose and a small mouth. She wears a pink long sleeved top, with blue jeans and white trainers. She wears blue pajamas in the bedroom scene.
INEZ BUDD plays MARTY. With an oval face, she has tanned skin, very long thick dark hair, dark eyes, winged eyebrows, a long nose and small mouth. MARTY wears a knee length night dress, and a kimono in her bedroom.
PATTY is acted by THEA BUNTING, and also has long dark hair, worn in a pony tail, widely spaced blue eyes, high cheek bones , wide nose and full lips Her red flared skirt is worn with a white top.
MISS LYNCH, played by CORIANNA POWLESLAND, is in her forties, with short hair, straight nose, and wide mouth. She wears a costume, a grey jacket with matching calf length straight skirt, and carries a small bag over her arm. For the dance she sports a full skirted knee length blue dress.
ALISHA-MARIE BLAKE plays CHA-CHA, and has an oval face, swarthy
skin, dark eyes, long nose, and small mouth. She wears pearl earrings.
CYNTHIA is acted by HANNAH FAITH MARRAM. She has long hair, in a centre parting, and has dark eyes, a long nose and wide mouth.
LAURA JANE FEENEY plays MAGGIE-SUE, and has an oval face, dark eyebrows broad nose small mouth and wavy shoulder length hair.
MELODY has dark skin, thick curly black hair, dark eyes, broad nose , and full lips.
MARTY is acted by TARA SWEETING . She has a round face, wavy blond hair, dark eyebrows and eyes, plump cheeks and full lips. She wears a wide red skirt, pink top and low heeled shoes. In the bedroom scene she’s in a knee length night dress and kimono.

SCENE ONE
In the background are projected images of TV sets, tuned to different B movies,
The TV screens rise.
Sandy and Danny appear standing on a beach, holding hands beside a palm tree.
Rydell High cafeteria then is revealed, with two flights of stairs rising from the cafeteria, and a balcony. A gym horse sits left, and a juke box back right. A long table with stools sits at the right. A band is playing from the orchestra pit. THE BACK DROP is a circle with a star either side. Metal rails are across the rear of the stage.
SCENE TWO. MARTY’S BEDROOM
A bed is placed sideways centre stage, a dressing table to the right, with a lamp hanging over the bed.
SCENE THREE STREET CORNER
Doddy is tuning a big portable radio.
The gym horse still sits right. The rails are across the stage back. A door can be seen at the rear, left. A gold ’51 Ford, with red leather seats is driven in by Kenickie. Images of car racing, headlights and chequered flags are projected behind the gang. The car spins round.
SCENE FOUR RYDELL HIGH SCHOOL YARD.
As in scene one.
ACT 2
SCENE 1
The Dance. The gym has been transformed with wall-bars placed against the side walls and a row of chairs placed in front of each wall. There is a small platform centre stage, with a step up to it and balloons beneath it on either side. A microphone dominates the center of the small platform and above it is the image of a huge pumpkin with a banner saying Happy Halloween hanging above. . A flight of stairs on right back lead up to the balcony where the band can be glimpsed behind a screen of bars.
SCENE 2
Outside the Burger Palace. The wall bars are re-arranged, to form the outside walls of the bar, the gym horse stands on the left and the Rydell High sign is replaced by a red disc.
SCENE 3
The Gang Fight The set is the same as for Outside the Burger Palace
SCENE 4
Drive In. An open-topped convertible car dominates the stage while above it a huge screen shows a horror movie. The action on the screen continues while Sandy and Danny talk below.
SCENE 5
Jan’s basement
The gym horse is to the left and towards the centre is a small couch. There are two chairs on the right and centre back, steps wind up out of the basement.
SCENE 6
In the Street
The scene is the same as in Scene 3
SCENE 7
In Sandy’s House
There’s a bed to the right of the stage with Sandy curled up on it and to the left Danny perches on the gym horse, in a totally different place.
SCENE 8
Cafeteria and Street Finale
The cafeteria has a long counter center back, with a waiter behind it and various foodstuffs on top of it. The people seated at the counter face away from us. There are tables and chairs dotted around and stools for people to sit on. The furniture is all cleared for the finale.
